Abstract

Robotics competitions are a learning tool that integrates knowledge of mechanical design, electronics, and programming. Within these competitions, the sumo category represents a significant challenge for participants, as they must comply with various size and weight restrictions established by competition regulations. Each of these limitations directly influences mechanical design and component selection. To address this issue, the general objective of this article is to detail the manufacturing and validation of a remotely operated mini sumo robot. The methodology combined computational simulation, manufacturing by three-dimensional printing, and the development of a custom printed circuit board to house a main microcontroller and a motor controller. Additionally, object-oriented software was programmed, focused on ensuring latency-free wireless communication and governing kinematics. The results demonstrated high parametric accuracy between the virtual and physical mass, complying with the perimeter limits through a frontal expansion. Furthermore, the algorithmic calibration of the control logic eliminated physical traction asymmetries. It is inferred that this interdisciplinary integration and the optimization of its areas maximize the competitive performance of the prototype.
