Abstract

A proposal for a complementary water supply system is presented to generate a social, economic and environmental impact on the population of the El Olivo village, Cogua, Cundinamarca. The aim is to provide a solution to the problem of water shortage and irrigation of orchards. The main objective was to propose three types of jagüey designs, to reduce the consumption of water used in crop irrigation. A quantitative approach was used; for this, rainfall data from one of the stations near the area was used to determine rainfall and establish the necessary catchment areas to satisfy the necessary demand for the crops present in the area. Rainfall intensities were determined to define the design flow for the call channel, excess drainage and grit tank systems. The designs of the jagüeyes, call channels, sand traps and landfills were made for each of them. Then, the proposal for harvesting with jagüeyes supported by the sixth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) is favorable for agriculture, orchards for human consumption and climate change.
