Abstract
Muchos ingenieros se preparan para ejercer su profeción desde la perspectiva tecnica, es decir se imaginan trabajando en empresas de servicios, diseños, instalaciones, etc... Como ingenieros de campo o de operación y mantenimiento. Muy pocos piensan en una carrera en la administración. En muchas empresas los ingenieros son promovidos llevando a comvertise en gerentes, en cargos tales como ingeniero jefe o director del departamento de ingeniería. Sin embargo, es notable que aunque los ingenieros tienen una excelente preparación en los aspectos tecnicos de su trabajo, no estan muy bien preparados para manejar los retos de la gerencia del departamento de ingeniería. Muy pocos ingenieros que trabajan en la parte tecnica de las empresas se han especializado en gerencia. El resultado es que muchos ingenieros jefes se sienten poco preparados para tratar los aspectos financieros y de manejo de personal que encuentran en sus nuevos cargos. Algunos fallan y son reemplazados y reasignados.
