Abstract

This study analyzes the mechanical behavior of non-conventional materials through tensile testing, based on the development of stress–strain curves. Specimens made from eggshells, jute fabric fiber, and wood sawdust were evaluated using a universal testing machine to obtain the required data. From these results, key parameters such as Young’s modulus, maximum stress, and strain at failure were determined, considering both engineering and true values. The results show significant differences among the materials analyzed. Eggshell exhibited the highest modulus of elasticity and the lowest deformation, indicating rigid behavior. Jute fiber demonstrated the highest stress resistance along with moderate deformation capacity, suggesting strong and resistant behavior. In contrast, wood sawdust presented the highest deformation and the lowest resistance, characterizing it as a more ductile material. These findings provide criteria for the selection of alternative materials according to specific application requirements, highlighting the potential of non-conventional materials as sustainable and low-cost solutions in engineering.
