The art of beginning: weaving the political from the experience of birth

Abstract

This article analyzes the concept of natality in Hannah Arendt, understood as the human capacity to initiate something new in the public sphere through discourses capable of producing action, which emerge as public phenomena by revealing themselves in the common sphere. Birth, linked to biological birth, is transformed in the political into an act of freedom: a “miracle” that makes it possible to restart and reconfigure the world through plurality. Arendt presents politics not as a mere exercise of power, but as a promise that resides in the creative power of human beings to act in concert. Thus, politics stands as a practical art that demands going beyond the individual to build collectively, from diversity, a space of appearance where discourse and action acquire meaning. Natality then, embodies the hope that, as long as human life exists, the possibility of reinvention and social renewal through dialogue and cooperation persists.
