Abstract

This article supports the proposal of the right to die, in dignified terms and with guarantees, control and State surveillance, based on the individual decision to stop living and with a rigorous prior examination that allows to identify a decision acceptable to the legal system, so that the legal right of life begins to be understood as freely available, respecting the individuality and human dignity of the subject. Within the development of the right to die—arising from the individual decision to cease living, subject to a rigorous review capable of identifying a decision acceptable to the legal system, while respecting the individuality and freedom of the person within a rights-based framework grounded in human dignity—this article proposes the basic principles that a public policy on the right to die should contain.
